
LYLE SEARS
Lyle Sears is a retired Federal employee (Human Resources), who with wife Marge, has been active in every facet of community theater.
Lyle began his amateur theatrical career with the encouragement of Mary Fluhrer Nighswander, the then reigning grand dame of the Quad City Theater scene.
Lyle scored a series of early acting successes at the Quad City Music Guild in the 1950s. He has been seen there in many roles, including as King Arthur In "Camelot," Herbie in "Gypsy," the Jester in "Once Upon a Mattress," and Santa in "Babes in Toyland."
Lyle has also appeared at the Bettendorf Community Theatre, appearing as “Oscar” in the “The Odd Couple.“ He directed BCT's “Stop the Wold I Want to Get Off.”
In 1962, Lyle became involved at Playcrafters Barn Theatre in Moline, IL where he played such memorable roles as “Victor” in “The Price,” “Matthew Harrison Brady” in “Inherit the Wind,” and “Father Farley in “Mass Appeal.”
While at Playcrafters, he also directed numerous plays, including such notable shows as “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds,” "The Odd Couple," and most recently, "Out of Sight, Out of Murder."
Lyle has also appeared in many roles at Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse, Rock Island, IL.
Lyle has also served as President of Playcrafters in the 1970s and 80s. It was during his term, that Playcrafters acquired title to the land under the barn where it performed, which acquisition insured that Playcrafters would have a permanent home.
“A Passing,” Lyle’s first published play, was recently performed (March 2013) at Alleman Catholic High School in Rock Island, IL.
