ANN BOADEN BIO
Until her recent (semi) retirement, Ann Boaden taught creative writing and literature at Augustana College. She received her undergraduate degree from Augustana, and her master’s and doctorate in English from the University of Chicago. Her fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry have appeared in a variety of literary journals, including South Dakota Review, Penwood Review, Big Muddy, The Heartlands Today, SIMUL, Buffalo Carp, British History, Lutheran Journal, Wascana (Canada) Review, and others, and in the anthology Christmas on the Great Plains (University of Iowa Press). She has collaborated on two novels for junior readers (Weekly Reader Press and East Hall Press). Her most recent book is Light and Leaven: Women Who Shaped Augustana’s First Century. With her gifted faculty mentor and friend Joan Beaumont, she has served as librettist for four musicals.
JOAN WYLIE BEAUMONT
Joan Wylie Beaumont was born and educated in South Dakota, then received an MA from Indiana University before teaching English at Augustana College, in Rock Island, IL, where she met Ann Boaden, first a student assistant, then a friend, and later a collaborator. She married Greg Beaumont in 1964 and together they raised a family while living in Nebraska and then Iowa. She was a church organist throughout her adult life. She and her husband are now retired and live on a mountain in Colorado.
