  • Video Recording Licenses
     VIDEO RECORDING LICENSES

By buying SCRIPTS or paying ROYALTIES you do not obtain the right to make any audio, video or audio-video recording of your production.

We offer a Video Recording Licenses for an extra fee. With that license you can make one copy of your audio, video or audio-video recording of your licensed performance for each member of cast and staff. (You acquire the "license" to perform the play only after your have paid the royalties in advance for all of your performances of the play).

Why? A copyright gives the playwright a "bundle of exclusive rights." For example, he alone has the right to allow you to re-print his
play, to perform his play, to take pictures of your production of his play, to make sound or video recordings of his play, or to allow the
play to be the basis of a movie or a television show.

Our playwrights allow you, for separate fees to (1) make copies of their SCRIPTS for your use in your show only, and to (2) perform their plays at the stated venue only on payment of the stated ROYALTIES, and  to (3) make video, audio or audio-video recordings your production of their plays.

Our VIDEO RECORDING LICENSE authorizes you to make an audio, video, or audio-video recording of your production of the
play you have paid royalties to do for the limited purpose of allowing your actors and your staff to have a recording of your performance for personal use only. "Personal use" would include allowing the recording to be watched or listened to by the family and friends of the cast or staff member. It allows for cast members and staff members to have a recorded memory of the show.
IT DOES NOT AUTHORIZE use for any other purpose. IT DOES NOT AUTHORIZE the use, sale or rental of the recording for profit in any form whatsoever. IT DOES NOT AUTHORIZE showing of the recording in any assembly whether for profit or otherwise.

It would also authorize recording of your rehearsals for the actors or staff to help the actors or staff to put on a better production-
that is, for "educational purposes."
